Marimekko began in 1951 by Armi and Viljo Ratia. The company headquarters are located in Finland, with their main base in Helsinki. During the 1960?s and 1970?s they were considered one of the top design
It was in the 1960?s that their company expanded into the US with Jacqueline Kennedy as a wearer of their clothing. Since the early days the company has expanded further and now has a children?s line. They are also in more than just Finland and the US. The company is located in the UK which actually had their stores before the company hit it big in the US. They also have locations in Canada as well as other parts of Europe. Their clothing stores can be found in the larger cities like London, as well as online.
The clothing as we mentioned above is rather simple in design, and it is the fabrics that really bring out the joy for the wearer. A delightful piece in this year?s collection is a black and white dotted dress. The top part of the dress is square with a rim of black that creates the shoulder straps. Around the waist is a black sash to create a little form for the outfit. The dress is just above the ankles in a flirty style. The children?s line is for girls.
The company compares their style to that of Pippi Longstocking with a Samu Jussi Koski style. The clothing is made from cotton batiste with classic patterns in checkered and dotted options. There are also jersey styles and a couple of coats in the collection.
The jersey style is a dress that looks like an overly large shirt. In this case the dresses will have a single colouring with long sleeves. There will be ruffles on the edge of the dress just above the ankles and two lines, one at the knees and the other at mid body. The jersey style is also button down.
The colours that can be expected are orange, lime green, yellow, teal, pink, black, and white. The colours on the clothing will be bright rather than the dull or pastel shades that are used in other clothing. Leggings are also very popular in their 2008 collection. The leggings are simple cotton material in a variety of colours and made for absolute comfort.
